Digital Printing is Growing in Turkey

Turkish printers have always been willing to embrace new technologies. Especially the state-of-the-art technologies exhibited in drupa and similar shows, do not take long before they show up in Turkish printing houses. The same goes for the fast developing digital printing area. But this time, different factors come into play.
To sum it up with a single sentence: ‘Commercial printing in Turkey transforms into digital printing.’
In addition to the advantages digital printing brings, increasing price pressure and falling profit margins play a great role in this transformation. And the digital printing manufacturers greatly help the printers with that. Increasing print quality, declining ink prices, widening color range, extra colors like pantone, silver and gold and clear ink options help convince many printers to embrace digital printing.
In 2015, 15 new high-tech offset presses with improved configurations were installed in Turkey.  These investments were mostly carried out by printers in folding carton business. Commercial printers on the other hand, usually opted for second hand presses. This is very normal. Because the prices of very little used, standard 5 or 6 unit second hand offset presses (including coating units) in Europe are very attractive. It is possible to find very good machines for only the half, and even sometimes ¼ of the normal prices of the machines. The commercial printers that wish to get rid of the market pressure and improve their business, usually prefer digital printing systems. Depends on IDC Turkiye 574 production digital print units were sold in 2015. (Including 50 ppm printers). 23 of these selling are color production digital printing system.
Last month during interpack 2017 two HP Indigo sold to Turkey.

The trend of digital printing investments in Turkey is very strong and looks like it won’t stop any time soon. As the commercial printers fight to stay in the game, they have to compete with the prepress houses and copy centers, too. Who knows what will happen untill end of the 2017? Ben üniversite öğrencisi iken Ajda Pekkan süper starlığının zirvesinde idi. Nihayet geçen ay son albümü -10- arz-ı endam etti ve bir iki hafta içinde çift haneli milyon TL’lik bir ciro yakaladı. (ortalama bir fiyatla 457 bin kalıp baskı fiyatı kadar) Açıkhava konserlerinde ise her zamanki gibi basamaklar bile satılmış vaziyette imiş. Stadyumlarda basamaklarda maç seyretmenin yasak olduğunu şimdilik bir kenara koyalım.
